A PLACE WE SHARE
Sixteen family occasions, told in sixty-four personal stories. A little different through every pair of eyes.
Family circleWe took a blanket down to the water after dinner. Nobody needed to be anywhere else for an hour. I looked at these three faces and wished I could make the evening last a little longer.
Family circleI asked for a rule clarification and received three different answers. By the end, we had written our own house rules. They were fair, according to the person currently winning.
Family circleWe added an hour to the drive for a beach someone remembered from years ago. It was worth the detour. The best plans left enough room for a different plan.
Family circleWe married in 2001, and this year the children insisted on running the restaurant. Our reservation was for our own dining room. I would happily book it again.
Family circleI recognised the song from months of practice coming through his bedroom door. Hearing it in this room, from beginning to end, made me hear all that work differently.
Family circleMy main contribution was testing the first batch. I also wrote down the oven time because the old recipe said only 'until ready.' Some family instructions need a little translation.
Family circleWe saved this report as a reminder of a whole year, not just a set of ratings. I was proud of the kindness she showed other children and the ideas she kept trying. This is a fictional sample for our demo album.
Family circleShe showed me the folded corners that finally held the roof in place. I photographed the house before we cleared the table. The picture keeps her solution, the little rooms, and the pride in explaining all of it.
Family circleShe knew the turns without checking a map. Watching her show the children her old neighbourhood made the place new to me too. We stopped for lunch wherever she remembered the best view.
Family circleShe brought the garden over with both hands so none of the flowers would bend. We photographed it flat on the table and saved it here. Every uneven petal reminds me how much patience she put into it.
Family circleWe kept this school report because it marked a year of growing confidence. What stayed with me was the care he brought to working with other people. This fictional sample stands in for that family keepsake.
Family circleHe brought this painting home after a school art project about a favourite place. I recognised the baseball diamond immediately. We saved the brushstrokes and his excitement together in this photograph.
